WHO?
WHEN? Every summer, you are welcome to visit Guatemala (www.inguat.com.gt). It is recommended to stay at least 8 days. Students who stay in homes, for up to a month, can attend a private school to practice or learn Spanish and learn about the culture. PLAN AHEAD!WHY? Because Guatemala has the best spring weather all year-round with very friendly people who will take care of you. It also has a very rich traditional culture and many historic and beautiful places to visit. It takes around 4 hours to travel from the US to Guatemala, by plane. WHERE? You will travel to the most beautiful and rich country in Central America, between Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador. You can stay with a Catholic host family who will take care of you. There are many places you can visit. Guatemala City, the capital, with 3 million people, Antigua, a colonial monument of America with cobblestone streets, Lake Atitlan, the swiss lake of America, Pacaya, the active volcano you can climb by foot or horse, San Jose, the black volcanic sandy beach, Tikal, the overwhelming ancient Mayan ruins, coffee and flower plantations, among other sites. - A positive attitude and an open mind - A valid US passport (8 weeks to receive it through the mail, after you have applied) - A good camera for breathtaking pictures - A spirit of adventure and much energy - Purchase an airline ticket to and from Guatemala City (Recommended airlines are American, Delta, Continental, United, USAirways, Spirit, TACA) - Spending money for food, shopping and tours. - Contact Mariella de Obiols or Deann Ponciano-Abascal for arrangements and questions - Two suitcases, one for your clothing and another one for shopping. |
